Spring is just around the corner...

I know it completely doesn't feel like it - but spring is on it's merry way! Just in time too - I'm not really a summery person (am much more at home in the cosy autumn wearing layers & scarves) but I definitely need a little sunshine! Anyway, I've been noticing lots of signs of spring over the last few days including some extremely pretty snowdrops just outside my front door! - I love snow drops there's something very innocent & unassuming looking about them - making them all the more beautiful! This week I have made this spring inspired funeral tribute.

I made this wreath using tulips, lisianthus, alstroemeria, astrantia, wax flower, eryngium & a mixture of seasonal foliage. The wreath seemed to work well with the table cloth I was constructing it on!

It's a shame my photography skills are so poor because the tulips I used were amazing! They are appropriately named  'lingerie' because of their delicate frilly edge. Here's a better picture of what they look like! - Aren't they beautiful?

In sympathy...

It's always a little sad when I get asked to make funeral tributes but there's something quite nice about getting the chance to create something really beautiful & appropriate for that person. - I guess that that is partly why I love flowers, they can convey & evoke such a lot of emotion.

I have to say that I find the more traditional funeral tributes deeply uninspiring - there's something about  white chrysanthemum basing & tacky plastic ribbon that I just find very depressing & personally, just make the whole sombre affair of a funeral all the more negative. Therefore,  I always aim for my funeral tributes to look natural, understated & to convey a real feeling of peace, serenity & hope.

This is a simple tied shief - definitely my preferred choice of funeral tribute. I love the 'just picked' look of it & the white, yellow, blue colour scheme has a real springtime optimism to it.  This arrangement includes eucalyptus, wax flower, roses, gysophilia & eryngium.

I was asked to make this cross tribute using the beautiful Lily-of-the-Valley because it had been in the gentleman's wife's bouquet at their wedding. At first I was really surprised that they wanted strictly just Lily-of-the-Valley & foliage but after construction, I could see that actually the simplicity really works. I just love the delicacy of the Lily-of-the-Valley against the meadow of green foliage.

I always find the wreath to be a very satisfying & easthetically pleasing design. I wanted to make this really fresh & rustic looking. It contains, wax flower, white roses, gysophilia, white ranunculas, erngium & a whole mixture of different seasonal foliages.

This is a tear drop design containing Irises, red roses, eryngium, eucalyptus, alstroemeria & gysophilia, it's a little brighter than my other designs mainly due to the variegated leaves but still has a relaxed rustic feel to it.

New year, new dreams...

Happy new year! I can't believe christmas flew by so very quickly & now we are already nearly a whole month into 2013! - This has got me thinking about all my aspirations for the new year...

I've really want to partake in a spot of guerrilla gardening for a while now & I feel this year is the one to do it! - Richard Reynolds set up the 'guerrilla gardening' movement in 2004 which sets out to bring life & colour into otherwise neglected public spaces. For more information go here!
These are beautiful new season Liberty prints which have taken inspiration from Guerrilla Gardening! Check out more some more here...

I have a few wedding which I am more than excited about doing this year! Here are the types of beautiful arrangements I shall be creating!

I hope to be making many more hair circlets, just like this beautiful one! Image taken from data.whicdn.com

I LOVE making button holes & am looking forward to making some quirky ones like this!

I really, really MUST learn to drive this year - but only if it can be accompaniment to my flowers...

It's a bit of a dream of mine to own a VW campervan - wouldn't it look great all filled with flowers?!

Wow! What a huge tree! This might be one of the redwoods in California. I had a friend who did something similar to this when he was on the west coast!

Whatever I do eventually learn to drive in it should definitely be able to pull along a lovely vintage caravan a bit like this one I spotted at Chelsea! I think it would make a great florist pop-up shop!

If not a car then this bike might be nice to meander around town in!

Finally... I am very excited to be doing some Floristry workshops this year at the beautiful RHS Hyde Hall & at the great Make, Do & Mend!

I shall be doing vintage teacup arrangements & flower corsages! For more info take a peek here!

I'm dreaming of a white christmas...

I really am dreaming of a white christmas this year! - Especially due to the fact that santa has chose me an extremely cute pair of wellies  perfect for splashing about in the winter weather! Can't wait till tomorrow...
December has been a busy month for me, I've had lots of teacup orders as well as christmas wreaths to construct & flowers have taken over my whole house - including until last night the bath tub!  Here are a few snap shots...

This christmas I have fell in love with berried ivy - it just makes the arrangements look a little more festive some how & I love the look of the dried seed heads.

I've used this lisianthus quite a lot recently - the giant pink blooms have a lovely unsophisticated flounciness to them! They also remind me a little of peonies. This arrangement consists of lisianthus, eryngium, lavender, roses & senecio leaves.

Sorry about the poor shots - I think my new year's resolution needs to be developing a few camera skills! - I quickly got a shot of these in transit - the dark purple & red seem to work really well together!

My most christmassy design!

This is a picture from the christmas wreath making workshop that I did at the great Make, Do & Mend earlier this month! It was lots of fun & great to see other people's arrangments! This is the lovely Kellie with her red & white themed wreath!
Have a lovely christmas! Eat, drink & be merry! Alie xxx

Christmas is coming...

It's nearly december & I have to admit that making all these christmas wreaths has made me feel very festive indeed! I just can't wait....

I am making these wreaths to order - they are made of real pine and contain a mixture of lovely dried apples & oranges (which smell just delicious!), baubles, berries, lavender, cinnamon sticks & even dried chillies (a personal favourite of mine!).
This wreath is called 'an alpine christmas' - I imagined it to be hanging on the door of a cosy logcabin somewhere in the mountains!

This is my 'crazy christmas' wreath - the one I  have made for my home & which I have already hung up! Obviously, it features a lot of orange & brown colours!

I have also been experimenting with christmas table arrangements & have come up with these rustic terracota centre pieces - they look really pretty when all lit up & are not too imposing on the table!
All of these are made to order so please message me on my facebook page if you are interested!

Dahlias...

At the moment I am loving all the brightly coloured dahlias around - they are definitely the most fun looking flowers, just like giant pom poms! I did a vintage fair today & used some beautiful purple & orange ones for my display.
